What is the difference between holdings and positions?

  • Holdings: These are the total number of shares or units of a particular security that an investor owns.

    • For Ex.: If you own 100 shares of a company's stock, that would be considered a holding.
  • Positions: These are the collective holdings of an investor in a particular asset class, industry, or sector.

    • For Ex.: If you have a position in technology stocks, it would refer to all the tech stocks you own.

Where you can them is explained below:

  • On Tiqs:

    • A list of the stocks in your Demat account may be seen on the holdings tab. On T+1 (trading day +1), purchased shares will show up under the Holdings page.
    • The open positions for intraday, derivatives, and delivery transactions are shown on the positions page for the current day.
  • On the console:

    • The stocks in your portfolio as of a certain date are listed in the holdings report in Console. The holdings report over time is another option.
    • Your positions in the derivatives section on a certain date are shown in the positions report in Console.

Note: The positions tab will display all shares bought or sold using the CNC product type (for delivery) on the same day. With the use of this tool, traders may swap stocks from their holdings intraday and keep track of their profit and loss. While Console updates its holdings and positions data at the end of the day, Tiqs updates its data in real time
