Are NRIs taxed on their income earned in India?

Yes, as per the section 5 of the income tax act (1961), NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) are subject to taxes on their income earned in India, just like any other Indian resident. The tax rates and rules for NRIs are slightly different from those for residents, though. In general, NRIs are taxed on their income earned in India at the same rates as residents, but they may be exempt from taxes on certain types of income, such as interest on certain bank deposits or dividends from Indian companies.
